Four epochs, two special fields: our permanent exhibitions

The era of Sangerhausen's settlement is not much more than the blink of an eye in the history of the earth. The origins of the local copper shale, for example, date back 250 million years, mammoths roamed the land here 500,000 years ago. And some of the people whose traces can be seen in the Spengler Museum were already on the move in the region 5000 years ago. Our permanent exhibitions are dedicated to the four formative epochs of our prehistory and urban history and give a deep insight into the geological and natural history connected with them. By the way: Many exhibits and display boards are specially prepared for children and young people in accordance with our educational mission.
